Urbani: Meciar No More Main Figure in LS-HZDS

Bratislava, December 12 (TASR) - LS-HZDS chairman Vladimir Meciar isn't the main figure in the party anymore, former party vice-chairman Milan Urbani told TASR on Saturday.
Urbani, who was excluded from HZDS earlier this month, said that the persons who decide on what's going on in the party are from within LS-HZDS, as well as from outside of the party. At the same time, according to Urbani, HZDS has abandoned its promises given to the public, it has lost its operational power and, as a consequence, also the voter preferences.
The former HZDS vice-chair insists on keeping his MP mandate, even though Meciar indicated that he should return it to the party. "I said in the past that if I leave the party, then I'll return the mandate. But I didn't see any reasons to leave LS-HZDS," he said.
"Currently I'm not going to enter any political party," stressed Urbani, adding that he wants to draw up a political programme on a non-partisan basis and present it to the public in the spring.
Urbani was ousted from the party last week for alleged involvement in the newly-emerged European Democratic Party (EDS).
