Fico: Sulik Disgraces Post of Parliamentary Chairman

Bratislava, August 4 (TASR) - Parliamentary Chairman Richard Sulik (Freedom and Solidarity/SaS) is a disgrace to his post of the second highest constitutional authority, said Smer-SD chairman Robert Fico at a press conference on Wednesday, speaking in reaction to Sulik's speech in Parliament earlier in the day.
"We were expecting a relevant speech of a statesman on the Government programme. This is not about another failure in terms of the protocol, but about the basis of Sulik and his political party," claims Fico. According to him, a parliamentary chairman shouldn't appear in Parliament unprepared and speak helter-skelter. "We'll watch this behaviour of his. We don't think that this is a failure of a novice. We think that this is a general character of his behaviour," said Fico.
Smer-SD vice-chairman Pavol Paska said he was surprised by Sulik's strong political attack against the Opposition. According to the former parliamentary chairman, adopting the Government Manifesto is a strictly-defined procedure and a moment, when Sulik should rather bite his tongue. "I was doing that. When you speak (as a parliamentary chair), you speak as a statesman," said Paska.
"If I hadn't behaved as a statesman, I would have called the era of Robert Fico's Government much differently than dark times," Sulik told TASR in reaction to Paska and Fico.
