Fico: I Didn't Believe Anything Radicova Said in Manifesto Speech

Bratislava, August 3 (TASR) - I didn't believe a word that Prime Minister Iveta Radicova said when she presented the Government Manifesto in Parliament on Tuesday, Smer-SD chairman Robert Fico told journalists at a press conference after Radicova's speech.

"If somebody talks about the fight against corruption with [former premier and Foreign Affairs Minister Mikulas] Dzurinda and [Finance Minister Ivan] Miklos sitting behind them and [former labour minister Mr. [Ludovit] Kanik in front, how can we trust that?" asked the former prime minister. Fico also said that he was surprised that Radicova dedicated 70 percent of her speech to the former government. "This rather resembled pre-election talk," he stated.

"Let's recognise that for around three months now, Mrs. Radicova has been saying that the state was in total decline. She continued with this rhetoric today as well, but didn't offer any solutions," claimed Fico, adding that he had the feeling that Slovakia is fighting a civil war. "I didn't hear a single piece of positive information. We expected that the prime minister would come with real solutions, but she didn't say anything in this direction at all," stressed the chairman of the strongest party in Parliament.

In addition, Fico thinks that Radicova's proposals will increase state-budget expenditures. "They're talking about more money for science and research, about stabilising the second pillar by a constitutional act, which is €1 billion a year," he pointed out.
