SPP General Assembly Votes Down Higher Gas Prices

Bratislava, August 2 (TASR) - A general assembly of Slovakia's gas utility Slovensky Plynarensky Priemysel (SPP) voted down the proposal to increase gas prices for households that was supposed to come into effect as of October 1, TASR was told by SPP spokesman Lubomir Tuchscher on Monday.
It was the National Property Fund (FNM), a majority shareholder (51 percent) in SPP, who voted nay, backing the negative stance recently expressed by the Economy Ministry.
"SPP (49 percent owned by an international conglomeration of energy firms) continues in talks with relevant authorities, including the Bureau for Regulation of Network Industries (URSO), as to how to adjust it so that gas prices for households reflect the costs in supplying natural gas," said Tuchscher.
The last time that gas prices for households in Slovakia went up was in November 2006. Since then there were two price cuts in place - in January 2007 (by 4 percent) and this year in January (by around 5 percent).
According to some information that leaked to the media in July, SPP wanted to ask the regulation authority (URSO) to approve the extraordinary price hike when it comes to gas supplies for households.
It will be URSO that will have the final word in the matter.
