Figel: More Heads Likely to Roll at and Under Transport Ministry

Bratislava, August 2 (TASR) - The personnel changes at the Transport, Posts and Telecommunications Ministry and subordinate companies are probably not over and, if need be, more replacements will follow, head of the ministry Jan Figel told a press conference on Monday.

"I've made decisions on personnel issues where I felt them to be necessary and urgent," said Figel. The changes have affected, among others, chairman and managing board member of the National Highway Company (NDS) Igor Choma and CEO of state-run rail-freight company Cargo (ZSSK Cargo) Matej Augustin.

"I want to continue to take action in the future," noted Figel.

Meanwhile, the minister is also looking into a controversial sale of land carried out by Bratislava's M.R. Stefanik airport shortly before the June 12 general election.

According to Figel, many documents indicate that the deal was fishy. He stressed that if something untoward is found he'll "act in a resolute manner".

A few days before the parliamentary elections on June 12, Bratislava airport exchanged land with Airport Parking, a company close to entrepreneur Vladimir Poor, who is associated with then coalition party Smer-SD. The airport probably lost up to several million euros, as Airport Parking obtained more lucrative and concentrated land next to the airport terminal, while the airport obtained fragmented plots in exchange.
