Bratislava, August 2 (TASR) - The Finance Ministry continues to insist that an inspection should be carried out at the Supreme Court in line with the law on financial inspections, head of the ministry's PR department Mikulas Gera told TASR on Monday.
"It's a standard process, similar inspections at the Supreme Court were held in 2007 and 2009 as well," added Gera.
Supreme Court Chairman Stefan Harabin had requested earlier in the day that an inspection by the Supreme Audit Office (NKU) be conducted at the Court. "It's an inspection aimed at the same area as an inspection planned by the Finance Ministry," Harabin said in a statement.
Finance Minister Ivan Miklos said on July 30 that Harabin stopped ministry inspectors from carrying out an audit at the Supreme Court a day earlier, claiming that their letter of authorisation was invalid. "I view it as preposterous," said Miklos, adding that it was an obvious obstruction.
Harabin subsequently rejected Miklos's statements. "Somebody is interested in scandalising my person via the media ... with the aim of depriving the Supreme Court of its budget chapter. As always, I'm concerned only with observing the law," said Harabin.
