Radicova to Meet MPs on Monday to Discuss Government Manifesto

Bratislava, August 1 (TASR) - Prime Minister Iveta Radicova (SDKU-DS) is slated to meet MPs from the governing Coalition (SDKU-DS, Freedom and Solidarity/SaS, the Christian Democrats/KDH and Most-Hid) in the parliamentary cinema hall on Monday to discuss the Government Manifesto that will be debated in the plenum the day after, the Government Office Press Department told TASR on Sunday.

Opposition lawmakers didn't receive an invitation to the meeting, as has been confirmed by Slovak National Party (SNS) caucus leader Rafael Rafaj.

SNS first vice-chair Anna Belousovova said that she wasn't surprised by this, given the negative stance of the Opposition towards the Manifesto, which has been announced publicly. The fact that Radicova deems it necessary to meet Coalition lawmakers directly sends out the signal that the position of the prime minister is weak within the Coalition, claimed Belousovova.

"[Radicova's] political partners aren't able to guarantee that the Government Manifesto will be passed, so she has to work with individual MPs," said Belousovova.

The stability of the Coalition was weakened earlier this week when the Ordinary People faction within SaS complained that its ideas weren't included in the Government Manifesto. It said that it will decide by the parliamentary session on Tuesday whether it will remain in the SaS caucus.
