Lipsic: Slovakia Needs Concept for Legal Imigration

Bratislava, August 1 (TASR) - Slovakia should work out a concept for legal migration due to current demographic developments in the country, Interior Minister Daniel Lipsic (Christian Democrats/KDH) has told TASR.
"The population has been falling, and it will continue to do this in the future. We need a concept of legal migration from countries that are close to us in terms of their civilisation. One of them may be Ukraine. At the moment, for example, we have Ukrainian doctors and top experts in other spheres in eastern Slovakia," said Lipsic.
On the other hand, migration from countries that aren't close to Slovakia in terms of civilisation may cause social and criminal problems, cautioned Lipsic. He added that the concept of a multi-cultural society that has been built in Europe over the past decades has failed.
"The concept of two entirely different civilisations living side by side without any disputes has failed in Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, France; simply everywhere where they attempted to put it into effect several decades ago, maybe in good faith. In my opinion, therefore, it's good to prefer peoples that come from the same cultural and civil environment," added the interior minister.
