Bratislava, July 30 (TASR) - The Finance Ministry said on Friday it had been barred from carrying out an audit at the Supreme Court a day earlier after the court's chairman (and former justice minister) Stefan Harabin deemed their letter of authorisation invalid.
This was a unprecedented move from the institution which is supposed to be a guarantor of the rule of law, Finance Minister Ivan Miklos told reporters.
The audit was originally set for Tuesday but was rescheduled for Thursday at the request of the Court, he said, adding that he signed the authorisation on July 21 allowing the audit to take place as of July 27. "I view it as preposterous," said Miklos, adding that this is obvious obstruction.
According to him, the audit is a standard procedure as was the case in 2007 and 2009. Miklos said that the ministry will now attempt to carry out the audit on Friday or Monday, and if Harabin continues to prevent it he will raise the issue in Government and Parliament.
