Slota Won't Run for Re-election as SNS Chairman

Bratislava, July 28 (TASR) - Long-standing Slovak National Party (SNS) chairman and lawmaker Jan Slota has decided not to run for re-election at the party congress of September 12, separate sources close to Slota confirmed for TASR on Wednesday.

Slota offered to resign his post following the general election on June 12 in which his party only narrowly made it into parliament. Four years earlier it enjoyed 12-percent voter support.

Slota is apparently "120-percent" determined not to stand for the post of party chairman in September, intending to serve only as an SNS lawmaker. He isn't seeking any party posts.

Slota, who is on holiday in Croatia at the moment, refused to comment on his future in the SNS leadership. SNS vice-chair Anna Belousovova, who is widely tipped to replace him, wouldn't be drawn on the matter either, except to say that she will speak to Slota when he returns from holiday.
