Beblavy: Government Manifesto Partly Inspired by Scandinavian Model

Bratislava, July 25 (TASR) - The Government Manifesto that is being drawn up at the moment has certain elements of the Scandinavian model of government and brings more transparency and decency into public life, SDKU-DS MP Miroslav Beblavy has told TASR.
Beblavy sees Scandinavian inspiration, for example, in plans to improve the atmosphere in society and in the huge effort to modernise the state. He noted, however, that sectors such as education and the judiciary can't be privatised, and will have to be reformed by the state instead.
When it comes to the economic chapters, the Manifesto is characterised by the liberalism of the era of Mikulas Dzurinda's governments (1998-2006), but also learns from previous practical and political mistakes, while more attention has been paid to social aspects. The only thing that Beblavy views as missing is more emphasise on practical steps that would make state and public administration employees more professional.
Beblavy's party fellow Tatiana Rosova thinks that the Manifesto lacks exact figures, which will draw criticism when it is published. She noted, however, that the previous government's Manifesto was full of numbers, but its aims weren't met. She believes that it is better, therefore, for the document not to include exact expectations expressed in numbers, but only the steps that the Cabinet wants to take. This should avoid the same situation seen with the previous government's Manifesto.
