Slovaks and Czechs Meet in Javorina to Celebrate Brotherhood

Velka Javorina, July 25 (TASR) - Slovaks and Czechs shared a common history for decades and it is good that they meet at joint celebrations in Velka Javorina (Trencin region), Parliamentary Chairman Richard Sulik told TASR at the event on Sunday.

Czech Parliamentary Chair Miroslava Nemcova is convinced that the separation of Czechoslovakia into two independent states hasn't harmed bilateral relations. "Quite the opposite, in the complicated world that we live in, and in a Europe dealing with big problems, it becomes clear how important it is to have good friends," said Nemcova.

Trencin Higher Territorial Unit (VUC) chairman Pavol Sedlacek noted that the history of Czech-Slovak get-togethers on Velka Javorina mountain on the border goes back to 1840, and these meetings are very important for the current generation as well.

"The celebrations of the Brotherhood of Czechs and Slovaks are an example of the need of our nations to get together. We also deal with a number of common problems at these events," said Sedlacek, adding that Trencin region has been working on a great deal of joint projects with the neighbouring Zlin region in the Czech Republic.
