Spisiak: More Mafia Murders Likely to Happen

Bratislava, July 23 (TASR) - The underworld will heat up soon and Mafia-style murders are likely to ensue, re-installed Police Corps President Jaroslav Spisiak said on the TV JOJ Plus night talk show Lampa on Thursday.

"My theory is based on the premise that organised crime gangs resort to murdering each other only when it's absolutely necessary, when no other possible option exists," said Spisiak. "Murder is not a priority, it's the effect of some unexpected or undesirable circumstance. One such circumstance is the police activity forcing them to make mistakes, to withdraw and prevent them from gaining easy access to money," said Spisiak.

Spisiak, who held the post until the change in government in 2006 and has earned a reputation as a crime buster, said that his main aim is to convince people not to view special police retirements [police officers are eligible for retirement after 15 years of service regardless of their age - ed. note] as an undeserved reward for doing nothing.

"I want people to understand that policemen deserve a special retirement policy for giving up activities a normal person would never give up," said Spisiak.
