Figel: KDH to Come Up with Candidate for Bratislava Mayor Next Week

Bratislava, July 22 (TASR) - Christian Democrats (KDH) will update their Coalition partners about their proposal concerning a KDH nominee for Bratislava mayor next week, party chairman Jan Figel said following a session of KDH's top ranks on Thursday.

The session saw discussion concerning the upcoming municipal election in November, said Figel, adding that KDH aims to bring forth candidates for mayors in all major cities and towns.

He noted that the KDH candidate for Bratislava mayor (to replace two-time mayor Andrej Durkovsky, who is now a KDH MP) is expected to be backed by the major governing-coalition SDKU-DS party. "We provided active and full support to Pavol Freso's (SDKU) candidacy for Bratislava regional governorship. We want to carry on with this tandem – in reverse," said Figel.

However, asked what he thinks about the move made by SDKU's branch in Bratislava, which announced its support for the party MP Magdalena Vasaryova's bid for Bratislava mayorship, Figel replied that things like this should first be discussed before being made public. "KDH will proceed in line with this principle," said Figel.

"I expect a fair attitude, as long as we want to score well in the municipal election. This fairness gets reflected in the proposals for nominees, ways of negotiating and an overall agreement," added Figel.
