Budapest, July 20 (TASR) - Relations between Slovakia and Hungary have improved, with controversial issues set to be addressed by the re-established Slovak-Hungarian committees, Slovak Prime Minister Iveta Radicova said after meeting her Hungarian counterpart Viktor Orban on Tuesday.
"We agreed on some fundamental issues. Foremost among these is the restoration of Slovak-Hungarian working committees, designed among other things to address controversial issues that have stirred up tension between Hungary and Slovakia. The purpose of these committees is to find constructive measures. Until then, such topics won't be raised either by Slovak or Hungarian representatives," said Radicova.
She added that the working committees will also focus on dealing with the problems that trouble Slovaks and Hungarians most. "These are dealing with the consequences of floods, creating new jobs and most of all, supporting regional development programmes including infrastructure construction," she said.
The working committee is also due to address the contentious issue of dual-citizenship. "This issue was but is no longer hot. There are sensible ways of dealing with this. We live in the EU, there is no reason to create fictitious problems, let's focus on the real problems of the two countries instead," stressed Radicova.
She also invited Orban to visit Slovakia to mark the 15th anniversary of the signing of the Slovak-Hungarian interstate treaty. "It seems that the invitation won't be turned down," said Radicova.
