Miskov: Japanese Investors Very Interested in Slovakia

Bratislava, July 19 (TASR) - Japanese investors are very interested in entering the Slovak market, stated Economy Minister Juraj Miskov (Freedom and Solidarity/SaS) after meeting representatives of the Japan Business Federation (Nippon Keidanren) in Bratislava on Monday.

"We've discussed possible investments with our partners from Japan. We've mainly expressed our interest in investments with added value, such as information technologies, biotechnologies and nanotechnologies," said Miskov, adding that Japanese investments are very important for Slovakia, as Japan is among the world's most significant economies. "Japanese influence on international economic performance isn't in question," he added.

Nippon Keidanren co-chairman Yoshimitsu Kobayashi is convinced that good Slovak-Japanese relations are necessary. He added that at the same time Asian investors are interested in Central Europe. "It isn't only about commodities, but also, as we have already mentioned, about IT systems, nanotechnologies, robotics and electronic devices," said Kobayashi.

Miskov wants negotiations with Japanese partners to go on and believes that specific measures will soon be found to intensify trading relations between the two countries.

The Japanese delegation has already met Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Mikulas Dzurinda and Prime Minister Iveta Radicova. They are due to hold talks in the afternoon with Slovak Investment and Trade Development Agency (SARIO) chief Robert Simoncic.
