SDKU Presidency Okays Mitrik as Candidate to Head SIS

Bratislava, July 19 (TASR) - Former MP and current mayor of Spisska Nova Ves (Kosice region) Karol Mitrik has been selected as the candidate of the strongest coalition party SDKU-DS for the post of director of the Slovak Intelligence Service (SIS), the party presidency decided unanimously on Monday.
Mitrik's nomination was proposed by Prime Minister Iveta Radicova (SDKU). She said that she took several criteria into account during the selection process, such as "character, probity, political experience, loyalty, dedication to ideas and values, and a straight backbone". [In Slovak, if someone is said to have backbone they are viewed as being moral rather than having courage or fortitude, as is the case in English. - ed. note].
Radicova said that she is concerned that the person should have a clean past and shouldn't misuse acquired information after leaving the post.
