Zitnanska to Change Way in Which Judges Are Selected

Bratislava, July 19 (TASR) - Justice Minister Lucia Zitnanska (SDKU-DS) plans to change the way in which judges are selected by introducing open competition, TASR learned from Eva Dukatova of the Justice Ministry press department on Monday.

According to Dukatova, the first thing that the new minister plans to do is to abolish the selection process for judges' posts.

By this decision, Zitnanska hopes to put a stop to the shady and dubious way in which judges' posts are assigned, and create conditions in which the best candidates can succeed regardless of who the justice minister happens to be. It's imperative to insist on open competition in the public eye to prevent manipulation and dubious practices, she stressed, adding that these changes will contribute towards a more efficient judiciary and faster court proceedings.
