Matovic: Referendum Turnout Won't Exceed 15 Percent

Bratislava, July 18 (TASR) - Even though many people vow to take part in the September 18 referendum, laziness will eventually prevail, MP representing Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party Igor Matovic told TASR on Sunday.
"I'm certain that the turnout won't exceed 15 percent, with such a figure actually being a great success," said Matovic, (elected as a member of 'Ordinary People' via preferential balloting).
He also dismissed what he branded as the "phoney" attitude of political parties that claim that this process can't be reversed now.
"I believe that it (the referendum) doesn't necessarily have to take place. It's just that the big-headed people would have to be humbler and show some willingness to come to an agreement with (Smer-SD chairman and former premier) Robert Fico so that issues that are the subject of the referendum are approved in Parliament and that a constitutional law on halting a called referendum be passed," he added.
However, he ventured that a Coalition-drafted constitutional law on curbing MPs' immunity won't be passed in Parliament. "I don't think they'll pluck up the courage to abolish the immunity and will talk nonsense about this not being the right approach," he added.
