Foreign Trade Posted Surplus of €536.4 mn Between January-April

Bratislava, July 12 (TASR) - Slovakia's foreign trade posted a surplus of €536.4 million between January-April 2010, which is €454.6 million more than the surplus in the same period in 2009, the Statistics Office reported on Monday.

The total value of goods exported from Slovakia over the period reached €14.47 billion, which is a 17.8-percent increase year-on-year. Meanwhile, imports were up by 14.2 percent to €13.93 billion.

The most positive balances were recorded with the Czech Republic, Austria and Germany. Conversely, the biggest deficits were in trade with South Korea, Russia and China.

Over the first four months of 2010, exports of cars and motor vehicles increased most y-o-y, while exports of TV sets and car bodywork fell.

As for imports over the same period, those of car components and crude-oil products rose the most y-o-y, while the most significant falls were recorded in components for radio and TV sets, gases produced from oil, medicine and black coal.
