Ex-President Michal Kovac Hospitalised

Bratislava, July 12 (TASR) - Former Slovak president Michal Kovac has been hospitalised at the Military Hospital in Bratislava on Monday due to nausea and dizziness.

Kovac confirmed to TASR that he's about to stay at the hospital until Tuesday for further tests.

"The regional operation centre in Bratislava received a distress call from Sturova Street shortly before 11 a.m., with the patient being reported to be near collapse," Operation Centre spokesperson Dominika Sulkova told TASR.

An ambulance was dispatched, arriving on location within eight minutes. "Paramedics provided first aid to the patient and transported him to the Military Hospital at Kramare," said Sulkova. The ex-president was conscious and communicated with the paramedics.

Kovac, 79, told TASR that the Parkinson's disease that he is afflicted with contributed to his collapse. "It's nothing extraordinary, this has happened to me a couple of times before," he said, adding that the hot weather could also have been a contributing factor.
