HZDS: Continuity Must Be Central Motif of Slovakia's Foreign Policy

Bratislava, December 10 (TASR) - LS-HZDS party views foreign policy as an integrating element for political parties in the representation and application of interests of Slovak citizens, with the element having a major priority, party vice-chair for foreign policy Barbora Strakova told a press conference on Thursday.

"It's impossible to alter Slovakia's orientation every election term. Continuity, ensuring a follow-up to past priorities and their possible adjustment by adding new emphasis, must be the main incentive behind foreign policy," said Strakova.

She added that, as early as when Slovakia was being established (1992-93), the party was well aware of the fact that Slovakia's future hinges on its membership in European organisations, with the first moves towards integration undertaken by the then premier and still HZDS chairman Vladimir Meciar.

"It's important to point out that HZDS hasn't changed its programme platforms, neither as a coalition nor as an Opposition party," she added.

The party intends to carry on developing and confirming bilateral ties with both close and distant neighbours, with an emphasis to be placed on the country's decisive partners, she added.
