Bratislava, July 11 (TASR) - The police have arrested a person suspected of the murder of former mayor of Hurbanovo and current Nitra regional councillor Laszlo Basternak (SMK), news-portal cas.sk reported on Sunday.
The police were unwilling to go into details; Police Corps president Jan Packa would only tell private television channel Markiza that the police will provide more information at a press conference on Monday.
Basternak was shot dead by an unknown person in front of his house in Hurbanovo (Nitra region). This wasn't the first attack on him. An unidentified assailant attempted to kill him in March as he was taking his dog for a walk.
Locals told TV Markiza that the murder may be related more to Basternak's business activities than to his political life.
