President Appoints Iveta Radicova New Slovak Prime Minister (UPDATE)

Bratislava, July 8 (TASR) - President Ivan Gasparovic on Thursday appointed Iveta Radicova the new prime minister following the resignation of former premier Robert Fico approximately an hour earlier.

The entire new cabinet – minus an expected environment minister appointment which will take place once the ministry is re-established – is expected to be appointed on Friday.

During the appointment – short of speeches compared to the outgoing government's resignation which featured a brief farewell ceremony and an address by Fico touching on the excellent relationship he has enjoyed with the president – Radicova took the following oath of office: "I pledge allegiance to the Slovak Republic. I will honestly perform my duties for the sake of citizens. I will uphold the constitution and other laws and work to their implementation in life."
