Simon: I'm Taking up Agenda of Thee Former Ministries and 11 Ministers

Bratislava, July 6 (TASR) - Most-Hid vice-chairman and future Agriculture Minister Zsolt Simon (Most-Hid nominee) will be taking up posts which 11 ministers in total have occupied during the past four years, he noted for TASR on Tuesday.

Apart from the agriculture sector, Simon (agriculture minister 2002-06) will also be responsible for the agenda of the environment ministry – pro tem – and some powers in the sphere of regional development.

"I realise that I'm taking up a ministerial seat in which 11 ministers have been changed over - or at the posts that will practically fall under my remit - during the past term of office," said Simon, listing four in agriculture, two in construction and five in environment, a ministry which was officially ceased to exist as of July 1 but is being re-established by the incoming government.

"Finding hidden problems after one minister, that can happen, but to find problems after eleven ministers - everyone can imagine what that will be like," he said.

When it comes to priorities at the Agriculture Ministry, Simon stressed "halting all the negative things that have been commended in the agriculture sector." As an example he mentioned unauthorised production of soft sheep's cheese (bryndza), problems around support for sugar beet production and shady public procurements.
