Bratislava, July 6 (TASR) - Slovakia's social enterprises, set up with the stated aim of employing socially disadvantaged and disabled people, have to date received €2.08 million in European Social Fund (ESF) subsidies with government approval, the Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Ministry said on Tuesday.
The subsidies were suspended pending investigations into shortcomings and irregularities uncovered during inspections at the enterprises, said ministry spokesman Michal Stuska.
The ministry terminated co-operation agreements with three social enterprises - Arvik, Revucky and Spissko-Gemersky - because of the deficiencies uncovered. One firm was dissolved due to flooding by the town council in Krompachy (Kosice region).
Four of the companies were removed from ESF funding for allegedly receiving illegitimate state aid.
