Tourism to Come Under Transport Ministry, Not Culture
Tuesday 06 July 2010 Zoom in | Print page
Bratislava, July 6 (TASR) - The outgoing and incoming governments have differing views on which ministry should have responsibility for tourism.
The outgoing Government transferred the remit for tourism from the Economy Ministry to the newly-formed Ministry of Culture and Tourism as of July 1.
However, the incoming rightist government wants to move responsibility for tourism along with powers from the transport ministry and the construction and regional development ministry - which ceased to exist under the ministry reshuffle programme effective as of July 1 - to a large transport, regional development and tourism ministry.
The drawing of European Union funds by respective ministries in the 2007-13 programme period is set to be co-ordinated by this ministry and overseen by the Government Office.
