Survey: Fewer Tax Inspections But Higher Taxes Imposed

Bratislava, July 5 (TASR) - In spite of an ongoing year-on-year drop in tax inspections, the amount of taxes imposed after such inspections has been on the rise in the past few years, according to a survey by Deloitte Slovensko.

According to the survey, which included more than 100 companies from across Slovakia, more than 70 of them recorded no or at most one inspection in the past five years.

Figures by the Tax Directorate indicate that income from tax inspections has been increasing since 2007, despite a 20-percent fall in the number of such inspections.

One tax inspector imposed additional taxes amounting to an average of €265,000 in 2009, up from €105,000 in 2004.

Meanwhile, €22,000 in tax was imposed per inspection last year, a sharp increase from €8,000 in 2004.
