Mihal: More Jobs and Levy Reform Will Be Priorities of Labour Ministry

Bratislava, June 30 (TASR) - A reform of the levy system in Slovakia will be the main priority of Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) member Jozef Mihal in case he really becomes the future Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Minister, he told TASR on Wednesday. "Family policy and social services are other key issues where major mistakes made by the outgoing minister (Viera Tomanova/Smer-SD) have to be corrected," said Mihal, who was confirmed by SaS as the nominee for the post on Tuesday.

Mihal claims that the unemployment rate can be reduced by changing the labour legislation. "This stands for the Labour Code and the Employment Services Act," he specified.

Another ambition of Mihal's is patching "holes" in the levy system through which too much money is leaking, as well as making other changes that he didn't want to specify. "There are rumours about changing the proportion of levies to the second (capitalisation) pension pillar, but these are matters which first have to be discussed within the coalition," he hinted.

The second pillar – introduced in January 2006 by a coalition not dissimilar to the incoming government but under attack throughout the intervening four years – will probably undergo changes, Mihal said. "It's necessary to cancel the nonsense brought about by the Robert Fico's Government."

The new government would like to rethink the project of social enterprises introduced by Tomanova. "I think that they aren't fulfilling their purpose and they're just a way of tunnelling state and EU money," he added.
