Defence Minister-designate Plans Changes in Tendering Procedures

Bratislava, June 30 (TASR) - Defence minister-in-waiting Lubomir Galko (Freedom and Solidarity/SaS), unveiling his priorities if he is appointed to the post, said on Wednesday that he would increase efficiency in public procurement procedures relating to military purchases by making them more transparent.
"I will not buy dud and unusable goods at prohibitive prices," said Galko, adding that he would examine contracts previously entered into by the ministry and reconsider unfavourable ones.
Given the poor economic situation of the country, the defence sector will have to resort to the planned retrenchment. "That, however, can't go as far as threatening the fulfilment of our commitments originating from EU and NATO membership," said Galko.
