SkyToll Says Its Road-Toll System Is Fully Functional

Bratislava, June 29 (TASR) - The electronic road-toll system is fully functional and meets all the criteria stemming from the contract with the National Highway Company (NDS), road-toll provider SkyToll spokesperson Lenka Lendacka said on Tuesday.

She was reacting to the statement published earlier Tuesday by the Slovak Union of Hauliers (UNAS), according to which the toll system has been fleecing drivers. Lendacka said that designated road sections are tolled in accordance with Slovakia's legislation. The toll system has raised more than €62.3 million to date.

The Slovak Union of Hauliers (UNAS) said that the new electronic road-toll system has resulted in losses to haulage companies amounting to more than €1 million.

Given that 175,000 vehicles are listed in the system, each driver has been conned out of an average of €6.64, UNAS further stated.

UNAS also cast doubt on claims on Skytoll's www.emyto.sk website that Slovakia has to date collected €58.7 million in toll revenues, which is already €8 million more than for the whole of 2009 (when stickers were still being used to verify toll payments).
