Horvath: Top KDH Reps Turned Out to Be Not Tough Enough

Bratislava, June 29 (TASR) - Representatives of the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) failed in the post-election coalition negotiations held between KDH, SDKU-DS, Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) and Most-Hid, political analyst Peter Horvath told TASR on Tuesday.

"The political amateurism of top KDH representatives is plain to see. Smer-SD was interested in co-operation with KDH; they could have used that fact as leverage to get more posts," said Horvath, adding that KDH should have played hard to get. Instead, KDH has become the weakest link of the emerging coalition, Horvath thinks.

He also expects that some discontent with the way power was divided can still emerge within the KDH ranks. "Power is divided not only at the Government level, but throughout the country in due course. I expect that when power gets divided at the regional and district level, more voices of discontent will be heard on the part of KDH," said Horvath.

He also thinks that agreements on the government programme and divvying up of ministries were made too early. "More detailed discussions were lacking," he claimed, adding that the parties involved did everything to reach agreement and prevent their partners from even thinking about forming a government with Smer-SD.

According to political analyst Michal Horsky, the proclaimed happiness of the centre-right parties with the agreements representing a crucial step in forming the Government. However, he cautions that re-formulating the Manifesto every year - as the coalition parties intend - might turn out to be a ticking time bomb.

As far as the future government goes, Horsky points to the possibility of a strong alliance forming between SDKU-DS and SaS at the expense of Most-Hid and KDH. "But things like these are generally not spoken until after the wedding night," said Horsky.
