Coalition to Appoint Ministers 3 at a Time, If Smer Does Blocking Gambit

Bratislava, June 29 (TASR) - If the Opposition MPs intend to block the Parliament as the Coalition temporarily loses its majority due to appointing MPs into executive posts, the Coalition will appoint its ministers three at a time, Most-Hid chairman Bela Bugar said after his Tuesday's meeting with outgoing Parliamentary Chairman Pavol Paska (Smer-SD).

"It's an easy thing to do: some members of the Government will return back to the Parliament and we'll appoint three ministers at a time. However, if the Opposition adopts this blocking approach, they'll put themselves under intense media pressure. After all, if they choose to act this way the Parliament will be like a circus," said Bugar.

"It's only a technical obstacle, and it will be resolved. There's no need to overestimate this issue," said Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) chairman Richard Sulik.

Robert Fico, the chairman of soon-to-be main Opposition party Smer-SD, didn't confirm nor disprove whether the Opposition will block Parliament. "I wouldn't comment on what's about to happen," said Fico. However, he was discontent with the way parliamentary posts are divvied up, describing the approach of the emerging coalition as arrogant.

SDKU-DS chairman Mikulas Dzurinda hopes that future Opposition parties Smer-SD and Slovak National Party (SNS) show decency. "I want to believe in decency and common sense, as making obstacles this way won't help anyone. I hope that 20 years after the Velvet Revolution Slovakia has matured, and will honour also the unwritten parliamentary rules," said Dzurinda.
