Sulik: Bugar and Hrusovsky Will Train Me as Parliamentary Chairman

Bratislava, June 29 (TASR) - Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) chairman Richard Sulik on Tuesday confirmed his candidacy for the post of Parliamentary Chairman, adding he will be given advice by predecessors Most-Hid chairman Bela Bugar and former chairman of the Christian Democrats (KDH) Pavol Hrusovsky.

"They offered me assistance and training. I view them as real sages in this sphere and I'll certainly make use of it," said Sulik after a meeting between outgoing Parliamentary Chairman Pavol Paska and the chairs of all the future parliamentary parties. Sulik took the parliamentary debate protocol away from the session, intending to scrutinise it over the next three days. "I want to read it down to the last letter," he promised.

Sulik also confirmed that the Economy Ministry will be led by SaS member Juraj Miskov, the Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Ministry by Jozef Mihal, the Culture Ministry by Daniel Krajcer, and the Defence Ministry by Lubomir Galko.

The SaS chairman refused to take up the same firm stance that outgoing Prime Minister Robert Fico did when taking over power four years ago. Fico claimed that he would expel his ministers within three minutes if they failed. "I refrain from such tough statements. Even Einstein with his theory of relativity might envy how it was possible to prolong three minutes into three quarters of a year," he argued, adding that this is one of the reasons why he is taking up the post of Parliamentary Chairman and not an executive post. I can have a "free hand" to resolve such matters, he said.

Bugar confirmed his aspirations to become a parliamentary vice-chair. When it comes to this post, as well as various proposals for future Most-Hid ministers, Bugar first wants to summon the party's Republican Council on Monday and let it decide.

Speaking about the division of posts in parliamentary committees, which was also agreed at the session with Paska, Figel said that he views ten chairs for the coalition and nine chairs, 15 vice-chairs and a parliamentary vice-chair post for the opposition as a correct, fair and balanced offer. He didn't want to specify who will be KDH's parliamentary vice-chair, however.
