Bratislava, June 29 (TASR) - President Ivan Gasparovic on Tuesday appointed 27 judges with life tenure, with Justice Minister Viera Petrikova, Supreme Court Chairman Stefan Harabin and Prosecutor-General Dobroslav Trnka in attendance.
In an address at the presidential palace, the president urged the judges to act in compliance with international treaties, laws, and the Slovak Constitution, as they undertook to do in their oaths.
Gasparovic went on to ask the judges to make judgements that people well view as just. "Steer clear of bad influences on courts. Don't be drawn into the atmosphere of political parties, don't give in to the influence of the media. You are judges, your political party is law and justice," he said.
