KOZ: Government Needs to Support EFSF or Run Risk of Isolation

Bratislava, June 28 (TASR) - The emerging centre-right coalition should reconsider its stance on the European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF), Trade Union Confederation (KOZ) vice-president Vladimir Mojs told TASR after Monday's tripartite session in Bratislava.

"The next government should definitely support EFSF. If it doesn't, then it has no place in Europe. I, for one, hope that the coalition will reconsider its stance, or else Slovakia will be isolated," said Mojs.

He also added that it's essential to maintain the euro and stability of EU-member states. "This isn't only about Greece, it's about the competitiveness of Europe against the world," he claimed, adding that the European Commission gave Slovakia an ultimatum to sign the framework agreement on the guarantee mechanism by July 1 or else face the consequences (the extent of which were unspecified).

The coalition, made up of SDKU-DS, the Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party, Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) and Most-Hid, wants to make a decision only after holding negotiations with foreign partners.

Republic Union of Employers (RUZ) president Marian Jusko thinks that it's necessary to become familiar with specific agreements first and also determine what each document means for individual countries as well as for euro stability. "There was no discussion about this issue in Slovakia due to the parliamentary election. It's a delicate issue," TASR was told by Jusko, a former National Bank of Slovakia Governor.

The EU, in co-operation with the International Monetary Fund, plans to raise approximately €750 billion to be used as aid for states affected by economic problems. SDKU-DS, SaS and Most-Hid have adopted a reserved stance towards the project, with only KDH being forthcoming about contributing.
