Bratislava, December 9 (TASR) - The popularity of convenient purchases via the internet is rising in Slovakia as well. Statistics from the Slovak Association for Electronic Trade (SAEC) confirm that not even the crisis has halted the growth in this form of trading, TASR was told by SAEC executive director Jozef Dvorsky.
"Even at a time when Slovak households are saving more money, the number of purchasers who use internet services is rising," said Dvorsky.
While the turnover of SAEC members grew by 7.6 percent y-o-y in 1H09, the number of orders has increased by 42 percent, said the SAEC director, who noted that a similar trend is expected to continue and that turnover could grow by 10 percent and orders by 50 percent next year when compared with 2009. The Christmas season will be more revealing, as this time of year creates up to one-third of yearly turnover for some internet stores.
Online trading is one of the few sectors on which the crisis hasn't had any impact. According to Gorila.sk manager Ivona Sevcikova, the crisis has helped online trading more than harmed it. "Books and DVDs are still drawing interest, which makes us happy. While our turnover in 2008 reached €2.66 million, this year it is already twice that," she told TASR.
