Sulik: No Reason to Give In, Our Coalition Demands Are Appropriate

Bratislava, June 28 (TASR) - Head of the Freedom and Solidarity party (SaS) Richard Sulik said on Monday that it would be much more suitable if the post of economy minister were allocated to his party rather than to the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH), which is also interested in the post.
"We're a party that is focusing on this area and has the necessary expertise as well as personnel, so I think that it would be much more suitable if we took up that post," said Sulik on Monday.
Earlier media reports had indicated that KDH may be willing to relinquish the economy minister post in exchange for SaS dropping some of its programme points, such as the decriminalisation of marijuana.
Sulik denied this, however. "Marijuana for the economy minister post - absolutely not. I don't know who wrote that, but I don't know anything about it," he said, adding that his party won't surrender its demands at negotiations with the remaining three centre-right parties (SDKU-DS, KDH and Most-Hid). "I don't see any reason for us to give in, we have 22 mandates and what we are asking for is appropriate," he thinks.
Sulik said that the main priorities of his party in terms of ministerial posts are the labour and economy ministries, along with the post of parliamentary chairman. Sulik didn't want to comment on what may happen if KDH refuses to stop insisting on the economy ministry post for its chairman Jan Figel.
