Bratislava, December 9 (TASR) - According to Economy Minister Lubomir Jahnatek, the Nuclear Energy Company of Slovakia (JESS), whose setting-up was okayed by the Government on Wednesday, could be launched by the end of 2009.
"We assume that if the realisation assessment is positive, the construction of nuclear blocks could be started by 2014," stated Jahnatek after a government session.
JESS, worth €216.36 million, is a joint venture between two shareholders - Slovakia's Nuclear Decommissioning Company (JAVYS), owning 51 percent, and Czech energy firm CEZ, with 49 percent.
JESS will launch the steps required to construct a new nuclear power plant at Jaslovske Bohunice (Trnava region), although an analysis of the project has to be made first. "This (the analysis) will answer the question as to whether the nuclear plant will be in Jaslovske Bohunice, and if yes, what kind of nuclear plant it will be," said Jahnatek, adding that after the probe is completed, all the necessary steps concerning the launch of construction will be taken in the next four years.
According to the minister, the deal is very advantageous for Slovakia, as approximately 99 percent of the Slovak share in JESS is a non-monetary deposit.
"It needs to be said openly, if new nuclear blocks weren't built, the state would have to liquidate the property invested in JESS, as it is so-called 'contentious property'," pointed out Jahnatek. The Slovak side is investing a share of JAVYS worth €119.69 million along with a financial deposit of €1.68 million. The Czech investment is made up completely of a financial deposit.
