Bratislava, December 9 (TASR) - Incumbent Slovak central bank (NBS) governor Ivan Sramko said on Monday that he is satisfied with the Government's choice of current NBS board member Jozef Makuch to replace him when his term in office expires at the end of this year.
"I wasn't interested, and I didn't accept the offer that I was given either," said Sramko concerning the possibility of staying on in the post.
"I've completed all the personal goals that I had when taking up the post. I've received various important international awards. I think that the institution (NBS) has very high credit, has very good assessments from the European Commission, as well as from the European Central Bank," said Sramko, who took up the job in 2004.
Sramko noted that Makuch has been active in the financial sphere for a long time. "I certainly expect him to affirm continuity and to continue to develop the good name of the institution. I expect that he'll continue normally as an experienced person for whom this area isn't new," added the outgoing governor.
