HZDS Planing on Parliamentary Comeback As Modern Party

Detva, June 26 (TASR) - LS-HZDS has to gear up for a transformation into a non-parliamentary party. However, it wants to return back to Parliament in the next election, which might be held sooner than in four years, LS-HZDS Jozef Habanik said after the party's executive session in Detva (Banska Bystrica region) on Saturday, alluding to a possibility of early election due to the emerging coalition's narrow majority.

The party's chairman Vladimir Meciar attended the session as well, but didn't talk to journalists.

In order to return back into parliamentary seats, LS-HZDS plans to modernise itself, and make its operation more efficient, said Habanik.

He added that it's not a single person but the entire party structure that must take responsibility over the failure in election. "Chairman Vladimir Meciar had, has and will enjoy the support of LS-HZDS. He represents its top personality and a key leader. He has proved many times in the past that he's capable of leading not only the party but the whole Slovakia, which he founded and was the premier of," stressed Habanik.

HZDS gained 4.32 percent of votes in the June 12 parliamentary election, thus failing to cross the 5-percent threshold required to get into the parliament.
