Teplicka nad Vahom, June 25 (TASR) - Kia Motors Slovakia plans to produce approximately 35,000 new compact Kia Sportage SUVs after production is launched in Teplicka nad Vahom (Zilina region) on Monday (June 28, 2010), President of Kia Motors Slovakia In-Kyu Bae said at a press conference on Friday.
According to him, the new vehicle should strengthen Kia's position in Europe as well as increase production volume at the car plant. The components will be provided by suppliers from Slovakia and other European countries, as well as from the U.S.A. and Korea.
"The Kia Sportage model is our next step forward. We've worked on adjusting the production line and on the installation of technologies for manufacturing since the beginning of the year. Production has been launched smoothly. As far as serial production is concerned, we'll continue to focus on quality, productivity and efficiency. We believe that the new Sportage will become our key product for breaking through on the European market," stated In-Kyu Bae.
Kia Motors Slovakia spokesman Dusan Dvorak said that the company plans to manufacture more than 200,000 vehicles this year. "Our expectations are that the cee'd model could represent approximately 50 percent of production and another two SUV models the remaining half," he stated.
