SaS to File Criminal Complaint Over Offer to Destabilise Coalition

Bratislava, June 25 (TASR) - Representatives of the Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party made a decision to file a criminal complaint on Monday (June 28) linked to a multi-million bribe allegedly offered to future SaS MP Igor Matovic in an attempt to destabilise the emerging coalition, SaS spokesperson Tatiana Tothova told TASR on Friday.
Matovic himself said earlier in the same day that a friend who spoke to him about the offer came over to him on Thursday (June 24) evening, apologised and said that it "was only a joke". "I hoped that this was all a joke, and I presented it that way to the media. However, the media omitted the 'joke part', a fact that I find rather saddening," said Matovic, adding that he's already put the matter behind him. "This friend of mine is trustworthy, has never deceived me, and so there's no reason for me to think that the offer was genuine."
Matovic told internet news-server aktualne.sk on Thursday that he was offered "a huge amount of money" to destabilise the emerging new coalition and trigger early parliamentary elections.
At least 76 parliamentary votes are needed in order to pass the new government manifesto. Matovic was allegedly asked to vote against the document in question along with three other MPs from the 'Ordinary People' faction (within SaS), thereby reducing the number of votes in favour to only 75.
