Sulik to Become Parliamentary Chairman, Hort Wants Vice-Chairmanship

Bratislava, June 24 (TASR) - Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party, the second most popular of the centre-right parties, has a rightful claim to the parliamentary chairmanship, SDKU-DS parliamentary caucus Chairman Stanislav Janis said on Thursday.

Janis added that such a division of posts is only natural, as SDKU-DS will take the premiership.

Milan Hort (SDKU-DS) is interested in the post of parliamentary vice-chairman, the office he held in 2006-10. Along with Janis, Hort harbours a conviction that all coalition parties should enjoy a share of parliamentary leadership. Currently, the leadership structure consists of a chairman and four vice-chairs, one of which usually goes to the Opposition.

Janis believes that the coalition will also have a majority on most parliamentary committees in order to secure that they work smoothly, as was the case in 2006-10. "Our offer to the Opposition will be appropriate," said Hort. The centre-right contingent is contemplating giving a majority to the Opposition on the Mandate and Immunity Committee.

SaS Chairman Richard Sulik is likely to become the new parliamentary chairman, as the post of finance minister he originally set his sights on won't be granted to him.

The third round of negotiations between the new coalition leaders is currently underway, with the division of ministries being left to last. The only certain nomination for now is that of future premier, who will become SDKU-DS election leader Iveta Radicova.
