Bratislava, June 21 (TASR) - Unemployment in Slovakia stood at 12.24 percent in May, which represents a drop of 0.28 percentage points month-on-month, the Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Centre (UPSVaR) announced on Monday.
A total of 375,161 job-seekers were registered at job centres in May. Even though their number was lower than in April, the same figure rose by 30,000 on annual terms.
On average, job-seekers have been on the books for 13.21 months, with this indicator going up by 2.67 months year-on-year.
The drop in the jobless rate was indicated by Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Minister Viera Tomanova in early June, when she predicted that the figure would stand at 12.25 percent.
"These data are obviously a testimony to the fact that a revival in the area of employment is taking place. Slowly but gradually jobs are being created and we're able to place people on the labour market," said Tomanova.
