Judges Launch Petition Against Relegation of Colleague

Bratislava, June 19 (TASR) - Dozens of judges have launched a petition drive against the Supreme Court's June 7 judgement to relegate a female colleague from a regional court to a lower court, a move they view as the height of bullying and harsh treatment in a fabricated proceeding.
Fifty one signatories note that the decision was orchestrated to keep Judge Anna Benesova from adjudicating in libel actions initiated by Supreme Court chief justice Stefan Harabin. Her transfer from Bratislava'd regional court to the first-instance court in the district town of Levice (Nitra region), according to them, is tantamount to being disbarred as judge.
Protesters emphasise that Benesova served on the bench for nearly four decades, working as the presiding judge of appellate panels at Bratislava regional court all the while ranking among the most experienced and highest-performance judges.
The petitioner also protest a suspension of Kristina Glezgova, a judge with the district court of Velky Krtis (Banska Bystrica region) on the ground of her raising an objection of bias. Proceedings, it is argued, were fabricated with the sole purpose of removing her from adjudicating on a specific dispute. The Supreme Court is scheduled to review her case at the end of June.
