Fico: Slovakia Backs New Agreement on Russian Oil Supplies to Europe

Moscow, November 16 (TASR) - There are no unresolved political issues between Slovakia and Russia, which means that the two countries can focus on developing bilateral economic relations, stated Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico prior to meeting his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Monday.

Slovakia, as a member state of the European Union (EU) supports the signing of an agreement on Russian crude-oil supplies to Europe, said Fico.

Putin pointed to the opportunities for further strengthening trade between Slovakia and Russia, which has been affected by the global economic crisis. According to the Russian premier, it should be possible to increase the current level to of $10 billion (€6.73 billion) in the future.

Fico will also meet CEO of Russian gas concern Gazprom Alexei Miller to discuss opportunities to develop Slovak-Russian co-operation in the sphere of gas and in jointly drawing up infrastructure projects.
