President Receives Letter From Four Prospective Coalition Partners

Bratislava, June 17 (TASR) - President Ivan Gasparovic's Office on Thursday morning received an official request for a meeting from representatives of prospective coalition partners SDKU-DS, Freedom and Solidarity (SaS), the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) and Most-Hid, the president's spokesman Marek Trubac told TASR.

According to Trubac, the letter, which was sent by SDKU election leader and the party's candidate for the post of premier Iveta Radicova, was delivered by a courier. He added that the president is ready to meet the politicians, although he didn't specify when.

In the letter, the political parties inform Gasparovic about the signing of a declaration on political co-operation that should result in the formation of a new government in the next few days.

The president on Monday tasked Robert Fico, chairman of the election winner Smer-SD, with forming a new government. In doing so, the head of state maintained the tradition that the party that wins the general election should have first chance to form a new cabinet. Fico accepted the task, with the deadline set for next Wednesday, June 23.
