Slovakia Asking for Baki Sadiki to Be Arrested, Extradited from Kosovo

Bratislava, June 16 (TASR) - Alleged Albanian drug mafia boss Baki Sadiki, wanted by Interpol, is supposedly in Kosovo and on May 17, the Slovak Justice Ministry filed an extradition request, TASR learned from Justice Ministry spokesman Michal Jurci.

Jurci said that the ministry has had knowledge about Baki's stay in Kosovo since May 5. "It was information not to be published, so the arrest would not be thwarted," said Jurci, indicating that this is no longer the case.

No other details are currently known about Sadiki, who is wanted on charges of illegal drug production in Slovakia. Early in the term of the outgoing government, Sadiki became a cause celebre in Slovakia when an alleged phone conversation with former justice minister (now Supreme Court Chairman) Stefan Harabin was released that revealed the two men were on quite familiar terms with one another.

The Pravda daily reported in late March that, according to a source close to the special investigation team, Sadiki had been in hiding in Albania. Interior Ministry spokesman Erik Tomas refused to comment on the case at that time.
