Bratislava, June 15 (TASR) - Slovak National Party (SNS) chairman Jan Slota will offer his resignation at the party congress in September, SNS vice-chairman Jan Mikolaj told journalists after a party presidency session on Tuesday.
Mikolaj added that the congress will elect the new party leadership, and it can't be ruled out that Slota will be re-elected. The outgoing Education Minister further said that he has no information on any of Slota's rivals, but isn't considering running himself, however.
Former construction minister Igor Stefanov stressed that Slota hasn't resigned, but only let the congress decide on his future. "He has my full confidence," said Stefanov.
According to Mikolaj, the main reason for SNS's failure in the general election on Saturday was the party's inability to stand up to media pressure. In Stefanov's opinion, the party failed to mobilise its voters, and some of them didn't go to the polls.
MP Jozef Duracka said that he proposed that the entire presidency should resign, but his proposal wasn't voted on.
